Anthony Community Middle School:

Get involved with kids in ADC's adopted Minneapolis public school:

ADC has adopted this school with a program for 6-8th graders and had a rich experience with it for many years. Current opportunities include:

EMAIL MENTORS

Make a difference in the community and never leave your worksite! Become an e-mail mentor to one student.

A group of Anthony students, who have been selected because of their high reading scores on standardized tests that would indicate a higher level of classroom performance than is currently given, is matched up with an ADC employee.

Most students have a GPA of 2.0 or below. Students need:
Assistance in goal setting skills
Someone to pay attention to them
Motivation to improve their grades
Help in realizing how what they learn in middle school applies to "real life."

Time commitment: One hour a week for the school year. This volunteer opportunity is available to ADC employees worldwide.

SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES

Judge inventions at Anthony Community Middle School and see how the future is changing in the eyes of middle school students. The Science Fair is one evening scheduled in April.

Time commitment: one to three hours. No experience is required.

More information: Helen Canning, 946-3113 or E-mail

HISTORY FAIR JUDGES

Judge student projects on a historical theme. Students spend the first half of the school year researching a topic related to a specific theme.

Presentations, displays and diagrams are then presented for judging. The History Fair runs during the work day typically in mid-March.

Time commitment: One to two hours. No experience is required.

JOB SHADOW

America's Promise joins over 100,000 business volunteers nationwide in celebrating Job Shadow Day on Groundhog's Day.

ADC partners with Anthony Community Middle School by providing a site for students to visit on this day.

Time commitment: One day a year. This volunteer opportunity is available to employees with supervisor's approval.
