How this site got its start
I started this site partly to help my 4-year-old niece to find a positive and motivating role model for her interest in chess, and because of my interest in chess on the web. As a chess teacher, several of my students have been women, and there has certainly been an extra measure of thrill watching them beat boyfriends, husbands and fathers!

I got interested in teaching chess many years ago when I tried out some theories I had on new ways of teaching the game on a woman who wanted to overcome learning anxiety. When she later ended up beating an intimidating-looking man in a bar tournament - checkmating him with doubled rooks right out of the opening - then and there I was hooked on teaching chess!
